their words

their words cut deep,
deep into the depths of me.
who knew that mere
permutations of letters
could carve into a soul?
who knew that mere
words strung haplessly
together, rolled off from
serpents’ tongues, uttered
carelessly from such
vile mouths could call
upon, bring back to life,
a beast, a demon,
a creature long forgotten
in the night?
their words were spells
cast upon an unfortunate
soul, they bearers of evil
tidings like the Furies
of old, their tongues
like acid burning, melting,
leaving nothing behind
but the scent of man
and his esteem to
serve as mere memories
of what he once was.
don’t they know that
man is a fragile system?
easily brought down
by thoughts,
and words.
